Al-Burhan Group is in the latter stages of re-construction of its Concrete Sleeper Factory in Abu Ghraib. Once complete it will be capable of manufacturing 2800 pre-stressed mono-block concrete railway sleepers to supply Iraqi Republic Railways for their network expansion programme.
A shipment from Skako of Denmark carrying the Concrete Batching Plant is due to arrive at the Umm Qasr Port towards the end of May 2010. In addition to the batching plant, the cargo ship is also carrying the Concrete Transportation System as well as all necessary equipment and materials required for the production of concrete. Skako is a crucial partner in the rehabilitation of the factory and contributes its wealth of experience in the manufacture and installation of concrete production equipment.
The delivery marks one of the final stages in the rehabilitation of the Concrete Sleeper Factory which will start making test production runs shortly. The world-class facility is due for completion in June 2010.
In preparation for the start of production; a delegation from Al-Burhan Group will depart for Denmark in order to receive from training from Skako. The team consists of mechanical and electrical engineers from Iraq who will head over to Europe in April to develop and enhance their capabilities. They will receive specialist training and instruction in the operation and maintenance of equipment used to mass-produce concrete for the railway sleepers.
